How to find and organise your Instagram saved posts

Where Instagram keeps your saved posts and reels, how to sort them into collections, how to back them up, and how to make them searchable.

Instagram makes saving easy: one tap on the bookmark icon under a post or reel. Finding it again is the hard part. Here's where your saves live, how to organise them inside Instagram, and what to do when you've saved hundreds.

Where to find your saved posts

In the app

  1. Go to your profile.
  2. Tap the menu (the three lines in the top corner).
  3. Tap Saved. You'll see All posts plus any collections you've made.

On a computer

Open instagram.com, go to your profile and choose the Saved tab next to your posts and reels.

Your saved list is private: only you can see it, and the person who posted doesn't get told you saved it.

Organising saves with collections

Collections are Instagram's folders for saved posts. When you tap the save icon, Instagram offers to add the post to a collection, or you can create a new one from the Saved screen with the + button. A post can sit in more than one collection.

A few tips that make collections more useful:

  • Name them by what you'll do, not just the topic: "Cook this week" gets used more than "Food".
  • Keep the number small. Five to ten collections you check beat forty you don't.
  • File as you save. Collections only help if posts go into them, and going back through hundreds of saves later is a chore.

What Instagram's saved list can't do

  • No search. You can't search your saves for a word in the caption, so finding one post means scrolling.
  • No overview. The grid shows thumbnails only. To know what a carousel or reel was about, you have to open it.
  • It only knows Instagram. The recipe you saved on TikTok and the one you saved on Instagram end up in two different places.
  • Deleted posts vanish. If the creator removes a post, it disappears from your saves, with no record that it was ever there.

How to back up your saved posts

Instagram lets you download a copy of your account information, and it includes a list of what you've saved:

  1. In Instagram, open Accounts Centre → Your information and permissions → Download your information.
  2. Choose your Instagram account and select Saved (or everything). Pick JSON as the format.
  3. Instagram emails you when the file is ready to download.

The download is a list of links and dates rather than something you can browse. You can, however, drop that file into Socials Organizer's importer, which turns it back into a library with captions and pictures.

Make your Instagram saves searchable, and sorted for you

If you've saved more than you could ever file by hand, Socials Organizer does the filing for you. Connect Instagram through the browser extension and it brings in your saved posts and reels from your own signed-in browser. You never give us your password.

Then the AI goes through each save:

  • It reads the caption and looks at the photos, including every slide of a carousel.
  • When a reel's caption doesn't say much, it watches the video and listens to what's said.
  • It gives the save a clear title and files it into a category built around what you save.

Your Instagram saves then sit alongside everything you've saved on TikTok, X, Reddit, YouTube, LinkedIn and Threads, sorted by subject. Search finds words in captions and in what was said in videos, so "that focaccia reel" takes seconds to find.
