How the AI sorts your saves

Categories and subcategories, how each save is filed, and how to teach it your way.

What the AI looks at

For every save, the AI reads the caption and the author's details and looks at the pictures, including every slide of a carousel.

When a video's caption doesn't say enough, it also watches the video: it looks at frames from it and transcribes what's said. The transcript is kept with the save, so you can search it later. If you'd like every video watched, even ones with good captions, switch on Settings → AI organisation → Watch every video.

From all that, it gives the save a clear title ("One-pot creamy tomato orzo" rather than "you need this 😭"), suggests a few tags, and files it into one of your categories.

Your categories

After your first sync, the AI designs a set of categories around what you actually save, like Food & Recipes or Travel, each with subcategories such as Weeknight dinners or Portugal. A main category with subcategories works as a heading: every save sits in one of its subcategories.

The categories are yours to change:

  • Rename, recolour, add or remove categories from the sidebar.
  • Describe a category ("what belongs here") and the AI uses your description when filing.
  • Split a busy category: choose Split into subcategories with AI from its menu, and untick any suggestions you don't want.
  • Start again: the wand icon next to Categories (Personalise categories with AI) proposes a fresh set from a sample of your saves. Applying it re-sorts everything the AI filed; saves you filed by hand stay where you put them.

If a save doesn't fit any of your subcategories, the AI can add a new one for it.

Moving saves yourself

Your choice always beats the AI's. To move a save:

  • drag it onto a category in the sidebar;
  • open it and change its Category; or
  • select several and choose Move to.

The AI learns from what you move. And if you move several posts from the same person to the same category, you'll be offered a rule (Always) so their future posts go straight there. Rules beat the AI; you can see and delete them in Settings → Rules.

The "to sort" counter

New saves are sorted within a minute or two. While any are waiting, the top bar shows how many are left to sort; press it to sort them now. Big first imports take longer, so give it a little while.

Re-sorting

If you've changed your categories a lot, Settings → AI organisation → Re-sort everything asks the AI to re-file every save. Anything you filed by hand stays put.
